Private Cloud Computing for the Enterprise

The idea behind cloud computing is deceptively simple: Share resources from an expandable pool of commodity servers and storage across many applications and databases and then charge business users according to their consumption. Business consumers avoid the traditional effort and time to procure hardware. If structured correctly, the business consumer's need to plan for the capital investment, the need to purchase, or wait for delivery or installation of hardware, are all avoided and business requirements are fulfilled in hours; they simply request virtual machines that run on shared resources already waiting - and save money and time.

A private cloud computing environment has distinct advantages over public cloud offerings. These advantages center around the "private" aspect of cloud computing combined with a design that provides the simplicity, ease of integration, security and scale that enterprises require. By leveraging a 100% open-source foundation, we can deliver computing in a shared environment at costs unattainable with current commercial offerings.

Getting Your Mobile Strategy Right the First Time - Building For Agility, Flexibility and Future Growth

Too often it's easy for businesses to plan an initial mobile rollout, without thinking through exactly what an on-going commitment to that channel requires. Rather than going for a quick 'iPhone check box' solution, businesses need to think through multi-channel support from the outset. Choosing a mobile platform that meets an organization's current and future needs ensures IT Leaders a complete solution that not only meets the needs of the business, but also leverages existing IT infrastructure and assets.

  • Plan for multi-channel support from the outset
  • Integrate mobile as part of a unified rollout across all commerce channels
  • Leverage all existing web services, other data sources and information assets
  • Manage your total cost of ownership

The New Normal - Empowered Consumer, Breaking Down the Walls

Consumer Centricity is a driver for growth in the new world order of commerce. With rapid adoption of mobile devices and "hyper digitization" the ever connected, x-channel consumer is more empowered than he was before driving companies to quickly adjust how they service and build relationships. As companies adapt to this change several classic industry definitions such as consumer products, retail, telecom service providers, media, entertainment, hospitality, etc. continue to blur and merge in the digital world. Organizations within these industries are sharpening their focus on their consumers' experience in order to both drive revenue by strengthening relationship with the ever connected, x-channel the "Now Consumer".

Shopper Experience Study: Highlights & Analysis

Everyone agrees that shoppers have gained power in the retail equation, for example with their use of smartphones that let them compare products and prices in real time. This power shift is one big reason retailers need to know what consumers want from the shopping experience - what they like and what drives them crazy. Improve your understanding of shopper behavior and help you craft effective strategies to meet their needs.

The Common Credentials Dilemma

Typically, large enterprises have thousands of privileged accounts (administrator/root/SA accounts), so IT groups often deploy systems with identical passwords and leave then unchanged. The fundamental flaw with this practice is the serious security implications and regulatory compliance violations that occur if the local password on even one system is compromised. Without frequently and automatically generating unique passwords for every privileged account, users/hackers can decrypt one password and gain unrestricted access to every place in the network that uses the same credentials. This can subject C-level staff and the organization to excessive risks, fines, and potential reputation loss due to the inability of IT to properly manage privileged identities.

Attend this session to learn how to identify and remediate the common credentials problem permanently.

Workforce Optimization

Talent management is an increasingly crucial skill for IT executives, and generally a great deal more complex a problem than can be solved with traditional business methods. The organization that take a strategic, reasoned and long term approach to the issue will attract the right people for their critical positions. However, identifying key members of the IT team and hiring new talent are only part of the process. Every organization must also be able to retain the talent it already has. Companies that do not address talent management and retention issues and develop long term strategies will find themselves in a precarious position as the baby-boomers begin to retire in the next five to ten years. This session will discuss strategies for the retail IT executive.

Capitalize On Your Resources - Leverage Your Big Data

Given the current financial and technological environment, retailers are facing fierce competition with pricing pressures from both suppliers and consumers - all the while they lack the tools to capitalize on their existing resources. The sheer amount of data generated each day in the retail space is growing exponentially and disproportionately faster than we are able to analyze using traditional tools. Tools like Hadoop and HBase are built from the ground up to support Big Data, but just like with any other relatively new and complex technologies, there are challenges. Retailers need to learn how to harness the information created by social media, online and mobile targeted ads, product clicks and in-store data collection points, and how to obtain actionable insight from the mounds of data available across the enterprise. During this session, we will review the results of a recent data management survey to better understand what the key Big Data management challenges are and plans organizations have to address those challenges.

This executive panel will discuss how organizations that are able to successfully harness the impact of Big Data analytics - while maintaining the integrity of consumer privacy and compliance to security standards - will see improved decision-making across the business. Areas of major importance for retailers include: marketing, reducing shrink, creating a channel-agnostic targeted and personalized consumer experience, merchandising planning, pricing optimization, supply chain, and human capital management.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Enabling a more agile business strategy with accurate and timely information - What is changing to allow cost effective storage and analysis of large data sets?
  • Reliability and security concerns - Is Hadoop ready for prime time?
  • Processing response times during peak hours - In retail settings with high transactional rates, are there ways to integrate Hadoop?
  • Importance of scalability and speed - Is near real-time reporting a reality on large scale retail data?
  • Optimizing internal transactions and consumer interactions - Can Hadoop be connected to retail transactional systems?
  • Data integration and application retirement initiatives - Can I use Hadoop to replace relational databases that are unable to handle increasing workloads and data size?
